VMY UNIJOCC Fortaleza, Brazil October 2011

GROUP OF THE MONTH OF OCTOBER: VMY – UNIJOCC
We are the VMY youth group – UNIJOCC (Union of Youth in Christ) of the St. Vincent de Paul community, located in the Adleota barrio of Fortaleza – CE.
Our group exists for 26 years with the mission to evangelize through the love and faith in God. It is our custom to treat each other like brothers, after all, we are family, strengthened by the unity and love which joins us to the same Father, God almighty, and to a mother, the Most Holy Virgin.
We have come from youth scarred by violence, vulnerability and lack of opportunities, united by the same social, structural and political problems which are still considerable issues in the large cities of the country.
Since its foundation the VMY – UNIJOCC stands out in the Community, seeking always, with God’s help, to bring hope to youth and residents, celebrating local commemorative religious holidays with diverse activities and participating in local associations.

So as to innovate and evangelize in a creative and modern manner, when the group celebrated its 25th anniversary, VMY – UNIJOCC brought out of its sleeve one of its strategies for evangelizing: “The Pagode.” Not just any act whatever, it is one which in addition to dancing the samba, we also praise and adore the Lord, singing Catholic hymns to the music of the band. The musical group experiences success wherever it goes, allowing joy and the Word to spread everywhere. The band is made up of the following members: Roberto Junior (Singer and guitar), Marcos Victor (pandereta), Shailson Inácio (bass), Felipe Oliveira (tam tam), Davi Silva (drum), Ivan Miranda (pandereta), Júlio Almeida (drum) y Paulo Bruno (singer and panderola).
One of the objectives of the band is to break the taboo about predetermined forms of evangelizing, teaching that everything is worth effort to honor the name of the Lord, sharing the Word through music. For the Lord all is possible, so we try to idealize our objectives always with much perseverance and innovation, because today’s youth lives this way.
“We need Saints who are in the world; and who know how to savor pure and good things, but are not worldly”. (Blessed John Paul II)
All with Jesus, nothing withour Mary.
With Jesus, Mary and Saint Vincent we are strong!!!
