VMY INTERNACIONAL COUNCIL MEETING,

January 2008

On January 3-6, the VMY International Council met in Madrid, to hold its ordinary meeting of 2008. All the members of the Council have attended and they have been welcomed and assisted by the three young volunteers of the Secretariat. These days have been intense, full of common prayer and reflection about some important topics for the progress of VMY:

1. Situation of VMY in the countries (French-speaking, English-speaking, Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking countries).

2. Evaluation of the International Secretariat’s progress: Website, bulletin, volunteers and tasks.

3. Evaluation of the visits and encounters carried out in 2007: Central African Republic, Portugal and Slovenia. The 2nd National Councils Encounter (Europe and Middle East), carried out in Slovakia was evaluated as well.

4. Approval of 2007 balance sheet and the budget for 2008, focusing our attention on the analysis of the contribution of the countries.

5. Reflection about the III General Assembly 2010: Continental Encounters in America (July-August, 2008), Asia (2009) and Africa.

6. Planning of the activities for 2008: visits to the countries in 2008 (Poland, Brazil and other countries for fixing): notification of new volunteers, welcome of the New Sub-Director General, etc.

7. Next Meeting with the International Vincentian Family (January 31-February 2, 2008, in Rome) and other common activities with some branches of the VF.

8. Other points.

As you can see, it was a very full agenda!! The meeting culminated on Sunday January 6 at noon with a Eucharist to join Dorys Castillo (Councillor) and Miguel Velázquez, who celebrated their first wedding anniversary. We also made the most of this Eucharistic Celebration to say goodbye to Fr. Pedro Castillo (Venezuela), who ends his service as Sub Director General. We ask our Lord these reflections and decisions may serve for the good of the young and the poor. The next International Council Meeting will be in Madrid, on January 8-11, 2009.
