INTRODUCTION GAMES

1. - THE INTERVIEW.

Objective: Getting to know each other.

In a group, one or more persons interview someone else, trying to know important and interesting things.  The interview can be recorded or written afterwards.  Before starting, it is very essential that some time be dedicated in the formulation of the questions on the topics that interest us most.

This exercise can be done in pairs, in particular, with the persons whom we want to get acquainted with more.

2. - THE HIDDEN ME

Objective: Getting to know each other.

This can be done in any getting-to-know games.  When introducing one's self, aside from giving your name, you also say something about yourself that no one knows, something that is not obvious.

3. -   THE MATCH.

Objective: Getting to know each other.

Gathered around in a circle, a lighted match is passed around saying: "Lighted I give it to you, lighted you pass it on". To the one whose light is put off, all the others have to ask him/her something.  Then, start all over again.

If the same person gets the match put off a second time, the questions will be done to the person at his/her right, assuming that this person had not been questioned earlier.

4. - THE PRIVATE DETECTIVE.

Objective: Getting to know each other.

All the persons walk around the hall.  Each one is a detective in search of pre-determined clue (for example, someone who draws well,...)

We will go around making indirect questions.  One cannot ask directly what we are looking for.  The person being asked should not have any idea what we are looking for.

We can make many questions to the same person.  When we think we have found the person we are looking for, we tell him/her and explain how we arrived at that conclusion.

Then, we can search for new personalities.

5. - THE QUESTIONS.

Objective: Getting to know each other.

Two blank similar cards are distributed to each participant.  Each one notes down a question in each card about something that he/she wants to know of the other persons.  For example, "Are you in love with someone?, "Do you like school?"... The questions have to be answerable with a "Yes" or "No".  The cards are placed face down in a pile on the table.

One player then gives a poker card to each participant.  Then he picks up a card with a question and directs someone to answer it.  The reply given will be a "Yes" if the figure in the poker card is red.  The answer will be "No" if the card has a black figure.  Whoever chooses the person to whom the question is directed to should make sure that the reply corresponds with the reality.  The group will try to guess whether the reply given is true.

The player who answered will continue with the game, repeating the same steps.

6. - THE STORY BEHIND MY NAME.

Objective: Getting to know each other.

Discuss with the others regarding your name and how you feel about it.  Why were you given that name?  What other name would you like to have?  How would you like to be called if you were of the opposite sex?

We can also talk about the names of others.  Which ones do we like?  Which ones don't we like?  Why? Does the name of the person influence our perception and relationship with him/her?

VARIATIONS:

Comment on the story behind our nicknames and how we feel with regards to the nicknames given to us.
