Project: “Pre-school of Santa Rita.” Xinavane - Mozambique

Dear friends and benefactors of Mozambique,

“Love is inventive to infinity” (Saint Vincent de Paul)

         Looking with the heart and observing the reality of the orphans, poor and abandoned of Xinavane (Mozambique), we have decided to heed the call of Saint Vincent de Paul to “serve the poor with the sweat of our brow and the strength of our arms,” uniting ourselves as the Vincentian Family in order to work together.

         Our activity, to aid orphans and abandoned children from five years of age, will be an work of integral promotion.  For this reason, we wish to establish the “Pre-school of Santa Rita.”

         Through this work, we believe that our members of the VF there, the DC, CM, AIC, JMV, SSVP e AMM, will have a clear possibility of living out in common Vincent’s “affective and effective” charity to benefit the poor.

         To make this a reality, we need your help and support.  Therefore, we present this proposal, with its purpose and objective, in order to turn this dream into a reality, if you so wish.  We will be transparent in accounting for the funds used for this purpose.

         We hope a positive answer so that the year 2004 may continue with this important realization.

Vincentian Family of Xinavane (Mozambque)

Title of Project: “Pre-Escuela Santa Rita”

1. General Objectives

·        To give a common response as Vincentian Family (VF), as the Superior General incessantly invites us, to the profound cry of the poor, in this case, of the orphans of Xinavane (especially of those of an age with greatest need of affection, education and growth).

·        To create an Executive Commission which represents the branches of the VF: DC, CM, AIC, JMV, SSVP and AMM. For the administration and maintenance of the Pre-school.

·        Set up the Pre-school as an integrating part of the “Community School of Santa Rita” preparing the children for the program of elementary school.

·        To concentrate on orphans whose parents failed and who have been abandoned.  These account for 50% of the students of our school of Santa Rita, from the first to the seventh grade.

2. Specific objectives

·        Create a Pre-School for 50 children as a preparation for the basic cycle, because this is non-existent in Xinavane.  We wish that this Pre-School help the children in their relations with others, socialization, activity, mutual solidarity and the school work.

·        To favor a socio-affective atmosphere among the children who live alone or who live, as happens with the majority, with their elderly and poor grandmothers.

·        To supplement the lack of food for the children by offering them two meals a day because they are in a phase in which their physical and psychological structure is being defined and what they need to live normally is fundamental.

·        To give special attention to the children presumably infected by AIDS.  

3. Justifying Reasons

·        To respond with concrete actions to the isolation of the orphans in Xinavene because it is an urgent necessity.

·        To arouse interest in the children who are alone, whose relatives live far away, and who live with elderly grandparents.  The number of orphans increases daily, and the abundant incurable illnesses hit both the children and young parents.

·        To put into effect his project in favor of the orphans by gathering 50 children as a first experience.  The concern for the future of these children moves us to dream with this end.

4. Local resources

·        External spaces, garden, kitchen, toilets, all belonging to the parish church.

·        Payment for the public services of water and electricity.

·        Availability of a car for various needs (buying of goods, hospital visits, outings, etc.)

·        Daily presence of Vincentian volunteer to be a reinforcement for study.

·        Coordination and supervision of part of the Direction of the “Community School of Santa Rita.

5. Estimate of the Project

·        Pedagogical evaluation: every three months, according to the school curriculum

·        Evaluation as family: every month, with the Executive Committee.

6. Length of the Project

To prepare the school: November 2003 to end of November 2004.To begin the activities: November 2004

7. Budget of the Project

Total for a year   =>        27.860 €

Details:

                   (336 €         =>1 child x day x 48 weeks)

 

16.800 €               =>1 x 50 x 48 weeks = 12.000

  2.200 €                => Salary of two teachers

  1.600 €                => Salary of one employee for cleaning and another for

                                   kitchen

  3.760 €                => Purchase of tables, chairs, and organization of the location

  1.000 €               => Materials for games of children

  2.000 €                => Projector with large screen, and others

     500 €                => Gas for the car
